STAFF REPORTER
ARE YOU a 21-year-old fearless women, able to take eight months of your life to go trekking around the world?
The Africa Adventure Cape to Cape Expedition, sponsored by Mitsubishi, is looking for you.
Applicants from all walks of life are invited for the expedition which will kick off on March 8 2009 - from Cape Agulhus, the southern-most tip of Africa and conclude at Nordkap (North Cape), the northern-most tip in Norway in October.
Only 10 successful applicants will undertake the trip that will see them traversing through 14 African and an equal number of European countries for eight months.
"Just another trip through Africa - nothing out of the ordinary you might say. But if this trip is undertaken by a group of 10 fearless women and if it is done to promote tourism to the most alluring continent, it suddenly becomes something extraordinary!" said trip organiser, Enya Fehler.
She and her fellow trip organiser Andrea Doerfert are adventure loving German expatriates who came to South Africa in the nineties.
The all-women team expedition has the blessing of Marthinus van Schalkwyk, minister of environmental affairs and tourism. His spokesperson, Riaan Aucamp said the minister wished the women good luck in advance and was thankful that they would promote Southern and East Africa.
Already there are three applicants, two South Africans and a German, who have made it through the pre-selection process.
They will be included in the final selection workshop in May/June next year. All eligible women can visit www.africa-adventure.travel or contact Fehler on 044 533 52 11 for more detail.
