Five teams of women will undertake the Mitsubishi Africa Adventure Cape to Cape Expedition, beginning on March 2nd, 2009, starting from Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, and traversing the African Continent through Europe to its northernmost tip, the Nordkap or North Cape, in Norway.
The undertaking will involve five vehicles, and cover 14 African countries - some 22 000km - in 120 days, before moving on to cover a further 15 countries in Europe - 37 cities and 16 000km - in another 120 days.
The idea behind the expedition is to draw international interest to Africa as a travel destination and provide a close-up look into travelling in Africa. Team members plan to encourage sustainable tourism development to benefit all people and to collect accurate and unbiased travel information.
The adventure has received endorsements from Marthinus van Schalkwyk, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Michael Tatalies, CEO SATSA and from various African countries. |
